Fundamental Elements of Movement

  • Integrated Fitness, Classical Pilates & Healing Arts center 215 North Main St. Pennington, NJ 08534 USA (map)

Clarifying core support,  postural awareness and joint dynamics as the body stands, sits, bends and exercises.

A workshop for Pilates instructors, sports trainers and other movement specialists to help your students understand proper alignment, strengthen patterns of dynamic muscular support and improve body awareness.

In this workshop, we'll experience for ourselves, and observe in others, these elements of the movement curriculum:

1.  What does it really mean to stand up straight?

2. Differentiating activation of the abdominal muscles and basic exercises to learn these principles

3.  How the trunk should expand and rebound during respiration

4.  How an eagle spreads its wings and how that applies to widening and narrowing of the arm, scapula carriage, and breadth across the chest

5.  Head-neck connection, shoulder girdle balance and arm elevation

6.  Lateral weight shift and the rotator cuff of the hip-the neglected aspect of core support

7.  Twisting plate model of foot mechanics

8.  Intrinsic versus extrinsic toe flexors-learn the differentiation and its relationship to lower extremity overuse injuries and patterns of gait.
